EGYPTIAN PASTE WORKSHOP

Booking details are in the post to you all about an EGYPTIAN PASTE WORKSHOPS with Frances Osborne and Barbara Bell at Fraddon Pottery, Fraddon, Day 1 – 13th March 10 a.m. – 4p.m. Cost £35 members per day or £45 per day non members (includes clay materials). Day 2 - Jewellery Making ,27th March 10 a.m - 4 p.m. cost £15 per member £20 non member ( plus small payment for findings. Please bring your own lunch but tea/coffee provided.

Photography Day

A reminder about the Photography Day - 6th March at Jon Whittten's Studio. If you would like to have your work photographed and haven't contacted Penny McBreen yet please send your reply slip a £20 cheque and a stamped self addressed envelope ( big enough for memory stick or CD) to Penny by this Saturday 20th February.

Christine-Ann Richards

Talk and Demonstration by Christine-Ann Richards on her travels to see Chinese Ceramics and working in Porcelain. Sat 20th Feb , Chacewater Village Hall 10.30 a.m coffe for 11am start - finish approx 3.30. Please bring your own lunch, but tea/coffee provided. Tickets £10. Christine Ann will talk on Chinese ceramics, her own work and demonstrate with porcelain. She will also outline a tour of Chinese Ceramics she has offered to organise for anyone interested from CCGG in 2011. You can pay at the door if you haven't already got a ticket!

An Gwella

Following the success of the wonderful SHINE exhibition last year, the Cornwall Craft Association (CCA), the most prestigious craft and design and association in the county is thrilled to announce the launch of it's brand new and expanded contemporary craft and supplies show, "An Gwella".
For nearly thirty years the Cornwall Crafts Association has supported the craftmakers resident in Cornwall to encourage the highest standards of design and making. It also aims to reach a wider audience to promote a greater appreciation and understanding of contemporary design-led craftwork.
The Association is a member-driven self-supporting charity and has, since its inception in 1973, gained a reputation nationally for the quality of craftwork of its past and present members and attracts a wide-ranging audience from around the country. Exhibiting with the Association not only provides an outlet for selling work, but also allows the craftworker direct contact with customers who often commission work privately.
The President of the Association, HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Cornwall, says: "Visitors to the Association cannot fail to be impressed by member's skill and flair by which, through work exhibited, our lives are enriched."
An Gwella means “The Best” and this is the basis of our new show; the best opportunity you will have in 2010 to get your work in front of over 6,000 committed and enthusiastic buyers from all over the county and all over the world; the best opportunity these buyers will have in 2010 to see and select from the very best the designers, makers and craftspeople of Cornwall have to offer; and the best opportunity you will have next year to market yourself to the widest possible audience of craft and design driven publications and educational facilities in the country.
Supported by several key national and locally based craft and design magazines and centres of excellence, the An Gwella show has been developed by the largest and most prestigious designer / maker association in the South West, to celebrate the quality and diversity of contemporary Cornish crafts and design. Delivering a ‘one-stop-shop’ for the best designers and makers, as well as a host of supplies not previously readily available in Cornwall.

AGM at Ladock with John Maltby

A well attended AGM was this year held at Ladock Village Hall and our guest speaker, John Maltby, regaled us with a humorous and instructive talk about his methods and experience in making his internationally renowned sculptural pieces. He also reflected on the modifications he has lately made to his methods and from this we can all draw encouragement to continue experimenting and prolonging our chosen paths in ceramics and glass. Thank you John.

Pate de Verre Workshop

July 2009.
Ready to explore "the unknown" we started by making some new acquaintances while Gayle Matthias, Senior Lecturer at Tremough, gave an enjoyable talk and visuals of her career and work, mostly in glass.
During the second part of the workshop we sampled the pate de verre process. Using prepared simple rectangular moulds and ourown designs we lined the inner surface of these moulds with fine glass granules mixed with of water and a binder then prepared the surface for firing under Gayle's control. There were mixed responses to the process. Some were surprised by the patience needed; others simply enjoyed it. And one committed convert was made to Pate de Verre,
Satisfactory result I would say and soon we will see the fruits of our endeavours.

Viv Robertson

Pete Bousfield, Sylvie Glinister and CC&GG member Viv Robertson are exhibiting at the the Falmouth Poly, Church Street, Falmouth for a week. the show is called REUNION It features the work of 3 old college mates who were at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art in the 60's and now work in Cornwall.
Viv Robertson is also exhibiting at The Great Atlantic Gallery, Falmouth. It runs from August 9th for a week and features the work of painter/printmaker Pat King and Viv Robertson's ceramics.

Exhibition of ceramics and glass at Port Isaac

For the second year the CCGG mounted its Springtime exhibition at theChurch Hall in Port Isaac and the sterling efforts of members resulted in a stunning presentation of the wide variety of work undertaken the CCGG. The valuable success and experience of this exhibition and its management will certainly help us with future selling events for the membership. AGM and John Maltby

There has been a change of speaker for the CCGG AGM on 10th October at Ladock. Tim Andrews can't make it so we have booked John Maltby. He's giving an illustrated talk about his work and demonstration. AGM starts from 1.30 ( with pasties) John Maltby 2.00 - 3.30 , and AGM 4-5pm
John Maltby was born in Lincolnshire in 1936. He studied at Leicester College of Art and Goldsmith's College in South London and went on to teach art.In 1962 he joined David Leach at Lowerdown Pottery in Devon. He started his own workshop at Stoneshill, near Crediton, Devon in 1964 and has remained there since. For twelve years he made domestic wares and studio pieces in earthenware, stoneware and porcelain, and then discontinued the kitchen and tableware in favour of one-off pots.John's work is characterised by the decoration, often contrasting dark and light areas of colour, and its sense of form. He lectures in the UK and abroad, and is exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

OPEN AIR CERAMICS and GLASS MARKET

2 dates 20th August and 10th September
on LEMON QUAY, Truro.
We have booked a licence for the group to trade on Lemon Quay piazza on the above dates. As last year each day will be in the style of a French provincial town ceramics/glass market, this will be a selling direct to the public day, hopefully fun and profitable. We shall be open to the elements.

The requirements for each applicant are:
Provide his/her own table (6ft x 3ft max) and cloth to cover surface, dropping to ground to hide storage boxes and tied to stop flapping in the wind.
Be responsible for his/her own display, sales and packaging.
May provide own protection from the elements (Gazebo or umbrella) if desired (carefully weighted down on pavement, and you are liable for its safe use).
Cars and small vans only on the quay, must be removed and parked elsewhere by 8.30am and not return until 5pm.
You can book for either or both days.

Exhibition of Ceramics and Glass

Masterclass with David and Margaret Frith

Saturday 16th May 10 am – 4 pm, Design Centre, Tremough Campus, University College, Falmouth
David and Margaret Frith set up their first workshop in 1963. Their reputations are well established. David with his mastery of the potter's wheel makes majestic pieces decorated with his personal style of waxed motifs under heavy reduction overglazes and glaze trailing. Margaret concentrates on individual porcelain with carved decoration or coloured glazes as well as producing a comprehensive range of domestic ware and decorative stoneware. Both are Fellows of the Craft Potters Association and David is a selected member of the Crafts Council. They both have work in many private and public collections and exhibit widely in the UK and abroad.
It should be an informative and entertaining day and will include a talk, and demonstrations of throwing and decorating from both David and Margaret. For more details of their work go to http://www.pottery.demon.co.uk/
