Ceramic moulds

A Made in Cornwall member has decided to retire. He has 1000+ ceramic moulds, mainly of animals, and he wondered if any one would be interested in them.

If you are interested please give him a call – he is called Richard and can be contacted on 01637 860229. He is hoping to move from Cornwall soon so the moulds will only be available for a limited time.

Glass Fusing Workshop

A 2 day fusing extravaganza workshop will be held on 10th/11th August. During the 2 days we start with cutting glass, and then kiln-carving with clear glass. We then make a piece of jewellery using dichroic glass, which is fused in a microwave kiln before we engrave it and put it into the main kiln. Then we start on colour. We make one picture or plate using cut glass and one using glass frits and powders, and perhaps paints. You get a light lunch each day and a folder of information to take home with you. We cover the basics of designing for glass, fusing and slumping glass into moulds, with firing schedules and annealing information. You will have a minimum of 4 pieces to collect once they have been fired. People work at different rates and have different requirements so some people spend a lot of time on their pieces and some people whizz through and want to make more pieces. You also get introduced to various cutting, grinding and polishing machines and materials. The cost of our 2 day course is normally £190. We are offering a £10 discount to applicants through CACD.

Makers Making a Living

“Makers Making a Living”
Talk and discussion by CC&GG Members+ Museum Tour
         February 15th 1.30 am – 4.00 pm
            Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro

CC&GG Members have many different reasons for pursuing their craft, be it a hobby, an artistic expression or a commercial venture. The latter is the hardest road to take and requires dedication, focus, and organisation in addition to the skill required to make saleable pieces and over recent years making a living from handmade crafts such as Ceramics and Glass has become increasingly challenging.

However, several CC&GG members continue to be successful and we a delighted that Heather Swain (pottery), Jane Smith (glass) and Danka Napiorkowska (multidiscipline) have agreed to talk and discuss their successful working lives. In addition they will be joined by Jenni Phillips with her knowledge of working in Education.

This event will of great value both to artists starting a career and those wishing to gain wider recognition for their work.

Event fee £5
